So you have that new shinny little MP3 friend and you have already managed to scuff up the iPod. Well don’t panic there are ways to restore its luxurious finish. I know most people are on the verge of hurting someone or something when even the smallest scratch gets on their iPod. But they can be removed in most cases.

The iPod no matter which model you have is basically comprised of two materials. A shinny metal back side and a plastic/acrylic front of the case. The control wheel on newer iPods is made from a slightly different material also cleanable.

There are a number of products some specifically designed to clean an iPod and just some good old fashioned household products that will do the job. To clean the metal back of the iPod case you need a metal polish / scratch remover. Brasso is a household product that works well for this use; there are also several “iPod specific” cleaners for this use. These special cleaners are probably nothing more than a generic product re-branded for this use.

To clean and remove scratches from the front of your iPod you need a plastic polish. There are some generic ones on the market also. These have been marketed to remove scratches from other items like cell phones, laptops and other plastic devices. Then of course there are the “iPod specific” cleaners. But note that they all have one purpose to gently buff and clean the plastic surface to remove a scratch.

Just to note that you should follow the instructions very closely for each product as if you use in a wrong manner you could cause more surface damage. These products are basic a pasty liquid with a mild scrub in them that you use to buff the surface clean.

Here is a short list of these cleaner products. Brasso, iCleaner, IceCreme, iDrops are just a few of the popular products for cleaning scratches from an iPod.
